The Microfarm

Flowers tell stories~ quiet ones carried on morning light, and bold ones that linger long after a bouquet has been given. Drawn to varieties that whisk me away by their uncommon and fanciful natures, both fair and wild. My inspiration comes from long ago travels through the countrysides of France and our ever shifting seasons in the Central Valley. There’s always something to make me pause; each new bud and visiting bee remind me of God’s steady renewal in creation, fresh & faithful every morning.
— Amanda's thoughts on flowers

We love growing foliage that makes its way from field to vase, and its remnants given to our mini goats and hens who fertilize the earth and regenerate our soil!

We are growing in 3 separate garden zones within our acre property. It may appear we’re out in the country but we are in fact right in Central Fresno and our location is easily accessible. Between these spaces we grow a variety of unique and sought after cultivars inspired by cottage gardens, filled with whimsy and movement, that are eager to be admired and adorn households alike.

Our story

We are Collin & Amanda Froese, the owners behind Fig & Flora Microfarm. It all started a decade ago with this wild dream to buy a big lot with a small house on the cusp of Old Fig Garden. The tiny house movement was emerging and we thought let’s go even smaller, build a 2nd house & live tiny! But after starting and growing our family that idea felt out of reach. Then came the years of my chronic migraines, a recession, a pandemic, and underneath it all a whisper of “what’s next!?” Friends had asked us to rehome their goats which led to chickens and if you’re familiar with “chicken math” you’ll know what a slippery slope it’s been. With the re-emergence of the tiny house dream, the “Urban Cottage” was born. A place to welcome strangers, friends old and new, and practice our hospitality as a family. Since its success we’ve reimagined the property, added a few more gardens, started our homeschooling journey, and fell in love with flowers somewhere along the way. While the Urban Cottage will remain an integral part of our business we feel Our name, Fig & Flora, encompasses what we’re doing as a whole, and is a nod to our historic neighborhood in old Fig Garden.

Our business model we’ve practiced with the Urban Cottage has been people>profits and it’s the relationships we make along the way that outshine everything. So in this next season it’s not just flowers; it’s building community with an “it takes a village” mindset. Let’s collaborate together and bring beauty into your lives through locally grown florals. Fig & Flora Microfarm offers the opportunity to rewild yourself, bring richness into your home. As our ambitions continue to grow we’ve wondered who we’ll be blessed to grow alongside. Will you join us? Maybe the best is yet to come!
